Why you need a coach
All people who I've ever met in my life that have been successful had, have and continue to have a coach. No, not a man with a whistle screaming GIVE ME TEN MORE! But someone who had either been there and done it, spent years studying and learning or simply someone who was ‘X’ amount of steps in front of them.
Coaching is vital for our progression, it's not a weakness. To achieve alone is near impossible and when you attempt this you will always look back and think, if I had this person who was experienced I wouldn't have made so many mistakes. Let's look at climbing Mount Everest. That's a big goal, in fact it can kill you. Now, pack all the gear, food and emergency kit. Get some oxygen tanks and a radio! Scrap the radio, you are going solo.
Of you go, see you later. Oh wait sorry I forgot you don't know how to climb a mountain, you don't know what the kit is, you don't know the route, if you get lost you might need someone to come get you, you aren't first aid trained, and what good is it if you are but your unconscious.
All of these things must be taught so you will have had a coach; a parent, a sibling, a friend, a colleague or a trained professional to teach you at least the basics of mountaineering and survival.
So let's pick some more commonl goals that can seem like a mountain to climb then we will look at the failing points such as ego and why we don't succeed.
- Weightloss
- Creating a successful business
- Running a marathon
So each of these are very different goals however all three have something in common. They require a lot of work, preparation, knowledge and motivation or determination or whatever you believe is needed but in coaching we call it your ‘WHY’. Why you want to achieve this.
The why is simply the foundation, if your why is strong and clear enough then the rest will be much easier. If it's a weak ‘WHY’ you'll put in weak efforts and it'll be harder to get out of bed and do the action steps necessary to achieve the goal.
For these goals it is necessary to learn something, granted you can read up and watch videos and do free online courses. But are you getting the individual support you need? No.
Imagine now having an experienced individuals or even a team who can help you will save you so much time and from so many mistakes.
This person will listen to you, you can run past your ideas, ask questions. They will provide support, show encouragement, give you tools to progress, boost your confidence and inspire you, they will be there when you need them. The benefits of a coach to you are 100x what you invest into it. Coaching is simply that, an investment to your progression. Taken seriously, weight loss coaches can save years of your life and the money invested could not be better exchanged than literally giving you more time with your loved ones. There is no limit on the price you'd pay to see your children graduate university or to play with your grandchildren. Yet people won't pay a mere percentage of what we would say it's worth.
If you could invest a few thousand pounds to help you build a million turnover business that would provide you with financial freedom, a family fund that would see even your great grandchildren to the best of education. Would you invest for that?
To complete a marathon for charity or just for yourself is no easy feat, especially if you want to run the whole thing. You’ll need knowledge in exercise, nutrition, recovery, technique. Unless you've always been around health, fitness and long distance running however even then you'll have used or needed a coach at some point to help you. You can find someone in a gym, online, at the local running club. But a coach will help you. To ignore this help is being stubborn, trust me, i've seen people who let the ego or just ridiculous blind stubbornness go out there running and injure themselves. I've experienced failures myself where I could have just had some support to get me through first time instead of five attempts.
If you find free help, use it, but remember nothing is free and usually if you invest just a little you'll get a massive return. If it's free help it may be very basic and limited in its depth, I dare say it may even be very bad advice. A coach is a trained professional, and it's their job, their living that they work in so you'll get expert advice and this is why you must invest your own time and money.
Yes, time and money is the investment. If you do not put the time in you'll waste your money. If you do not put your money in no one will give you the time. I've been there I've done that. Coached people without charging them, trying to be a good person and unfortunately their time in was as much as their financial investment! Non-existent.
Ego will get in your way, it will pull success from under your feet and unlike a table cloth party trick all your stuff will crash and burn. Your ego will sit on you like a weight and stop you from reaching the dream. All you need to do is allow yourself to get help. Invest in help and reach the goal faster, easier and more often.
There are no excuses. Make the time, prioritise the finances and commit yourself fully. You will never regret it.
